Welcome

Welcome to the regional page for the Mission region of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG). The Mission region serves all schools in Los Angeles County.

Regional Representatives: About Us

Educator Representative

This is Catherine Estrada’s third year as the Educator Representative for the Mission Region and Catherine serves on the Publication/Technology committee. Catherine has been an educator for over twenty-four years. Catherine has spent the last five years working as a coordinator and specialist for Los Angeles Unified School District’s Gifted and Talented Programs. Catherine is currently the principal of San Jose Elementary and Highly Gifted Magnet in Mission Hills. Personally, Catherine is the Mother of four children who exhibit a range of gifted characteristics.

Parent Representative

This is Christina Desiderio’s seventh year as the Parent Representative for the Mission Region and Christina is the chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Committee. Christina has a profoundly gifted and talented son, a twice-exceptional gifted and talented daughter, and an academically and leadership gifted son. Christina also has two gifted grandsons. Christina believes these experiences are helpful to her in the role of parent representative.

Professionally, Christina has been in education for thirty-seven years. This is Christina’s fourth year as the principal of R.L. Stevenson Elementary School in Burbank, a Gold Ribbon and Exemplary Arts School. Christina has hosted seven GATE conferences for both parents and teachers.
